Book Review: The Pataala Prophecy Son of Bhrigu

Hello Folks,

I recently completed reading a new book, Son of Bhrigu (AKA The Pataala Prophecy) and simply loved it.

You can read my review on Goodreads here.

Book Rating: 4 / 5

Author Rating: 3.5 / 5

Recommendation: Must read

The Pataala Prophesy is the first book I picked up by author Christopher C Doyle, considering I have been pretty much averse to the genre of the likes of Amish (Shiva trilogy, Meluha, etc etc).

What attracted me to this book I wouldn’t be too sure, but yes, I ended up getting hooked to the story. Chris Doyle understands Hindu mythology so beautifully and hence, he is able to put it into words that create a visual treat for the reader.

His way of weaving in real mythology with his imaginative anecdotes somehow gives the story a very fresh original feel – and one wouldn’t get a whiff of what was his imagination until he reveals it in his epilogue.

The story of the Pataala Prophesy is about Shukracharya, who is the Son of Bhrigu, and the prophesy that was made by the Sapta Rishi during the start of the Kaliyuga. Brilliantly narrated, unputdownable and very much set in the modern world of Internet.

Downside:

The language used to indicate that the story is set in the modern world somehow does away with the class that is typical of a literature lover. Somehow, that didn’t go well with me, and I found myself wrinkling my forehead at some places where the English used is so kiddish that the flow and awe just gets disturbed. More so, since the protagonists belong to the teaching community.

Yet, I would say, this is a must read and of course, it mentions a sequel – so, it does leave you wanting and craving for more, as soon as possible!!

Random Pic Random Post 7: Mi

@Funny that the Random Pic was missing. 😛

Mi A1

Yes, Mi. The Mi.

Disruption of disruptive strategy

Mi storms in with a tornado

Rest is definitely not the best, left behind by Mi.

Mi becomes ME, says every Mi user.

Mi. Personify.
PS: Mi is the flagship phone of Xiaomi that has taken the world by a storm. They release each version of their phone with a completely disruptive strategy and basically, disrupt their own previous version’s popularity with a clearly better version.

If you haven’t experienced one already, you must.

Diaries of the Hechicera: Bleeding Roses

In my mind’s eye, I envisioned a story that had no beginning,
Years and years of wait, is what I could only imagine.
Life’s most fruitful years, one by one just disappeared
Left me wondering, wandering, perplexed and tired.
It’s raining bleeding roses. Know it. It’s raining bleeding roses.

In my sweet innocent little heart, I heard a heartbeat whisper,
It questioned, in doubt, finally!! Will the wait be over?
And I really really thought, it would be,
So I convinced my innocent heart, hour after hour.
It was raining bleeding roses, I didn’t know. It was raining bleeding roses.

There they were, the heart and mind, rejoicing a tad bit early,
For in store for them, was a story that would leave them both gory.
I had no answer, nothing to tell them, their eyes reflecting hurt deep,
For they felt that I had betrayed them, beyond repair, ruthlessly.
Would you please tell them I hadn’t known, it rained bleeding roses?

Would you? You? and You? Please explain, clarify for me?
I am as innocent as a child’s playful glee?
I had no vendetta, I had no theory,
I hadn’t any big wishes, except for joys and a bit of cheer.
I knew not, truly, dear heart, we had bleeding roses in store.

Stories that have no beginnings, tales without endings,
That start lonely, and end lonely, they rain bleeding roses.
Of hearts that cry and learn to live alone and stop questioning,
They just keep sucking manna out of solitary trysts, always beckoning.
They know now, that life will always rain bleeding roses.

Know it, heart. Know it, mind. It’s always going to rain,
And rain it will, in soft and tender, beautiful bleeding roses.

PS: This is what I would call, one of my twilight poems – something I wrote just before going into a deep disturbed sleep. I wrote about it here.

And someone stole a heart

Was I offered a million hearts
I would have heard him sing for them
I had to hear them beat a rhythm, but
Someone stole a heart.. again.

When I looked into the lake
A reflection I saw, curiously awake
Questions galore, what could I say?
And someone stole a heart again.

Far far away, thousands of miles in space
I see the magic faraway tree – and an enchanting place
I try to hear those million hearts sing
But someone stole a heart.. again.

As the winds rose towards the skies
I yearn to see that face arise
A robber I wished to catch ‘red-handed’
Someone stole a heart.. again

I expect to see bundles of hearts
At the end of the earth where the horizon gleams
But I want more to see the face that steals
That Someone who steals hearts time and again..

How many hearts, how many beats
How many more moments in peace?
Each frozen in time and space,
Touching the heart and stealing it away.

I have not a million hearts with me,
But each time you try and look at me,
Every single word that strikes home,
Is how you steal a heart again..

Again and yet again, you do it too
How may I ask you to stop it now?
Do I though want you to stop it too?
Or may I learn it from you to do?

May I steal a heart again,
May I freeze moments in time?
May I grab that tiny space,
And may I steal your heart again?

Musical Monday: Sujal-Kashish

I hardly get to watch TV anymore. The other day, I decided, come what may, I want to watch a soap opera.. our very own hindi TV serial. So, I joined my room mate and occupied the single bed in the hall – to watch this serial called … (I dont even remember the name now) but it has the famous Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki wali Parvati. 🙂 and Ram Kapoor in the lead.

Anyway, I bugged her to tell me the story so that i could understand this one half hour of the serial that I suddenly decided I had to watch!!! And then.. later on, I remembered how crazy I was over one particular serial during my college days. It was Kahiin Toh Hoga.. that serial about 5 sisters.. and Kashish the main lead, and Sujal and Piyush!! Ah, good old days.. we were so crazy about this couple… and we would just go ga ga over the kind of dresses Kashish wore.. whatever she wore would become the current fashion of that time.

She is a very beautiful girl.

So, for this Musical Monday, I wanted to post Sujal and Kashish’s moments together. 🙂

Just one regret – the best pair ruined their own careers for big screen dreams. They ruled the roost while they were on small screen.
